Dr Ahmad Zhafran Bin Md Azmi

Ahmad Zhafran is a Research Associate with the Particles and Catalysis (PartCat) Research Group in the School of Chemical Engineering at UNSW. His work centres on plasma CO2 methanation, integrating catalyst design with complementary energy-input strategies. His research has focused on bimetallic Ni-Fe catalyst systems and the coupling of plasma with light and thermal inputs to enhance reaction performance. He has designed and built a trihybrid plasma-thermal-light bundled tube plasma reactor to study these interactions. In addition to research, Ahmad plays an active role in laboratory management, including benchtop rig development, technical assistance, and day-to-day lab operations. Moving forward, his work is expanding toward the use of plasma-pretreated carbon-based materials as catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation reactions.
