CI Prof Yan Jiao and CI Prof Thomas Maschmeyer

Aim

At the fundamental level, Program 2 aims to gain mechanistic understanding of carbon catalytic reactions critical to renewable energy conversion and storage devices and systems, including fuel cells, advanced batteries, and seawater splitting.

Approach

Based on our research discoveries, advanced carbon catalysts with controlled catalytic active sites will be designed and developed to steer reactions (e.g., ORR, OER, HER) towards the desired products important for energy conversion and storage.

Benefits

This innovative research program will lead to transformative technologies for clean energy generation and storage, which will have a strong impact on the energy and transportation sectors moving towards zero emissions.
