Dr Elsayed Oraby is a senior research fellow at Curtin University.
He has 17 years’ experience in extractive metallurgy (industry and academic), of which 10 years’ experience was obtained in academic research after PhD and 7 years before PhD in teaching and research. Dr Oraby holds a PhD in Extractive Metallurgical Engineering (Hydrometallurgy) of using eco-friendly lixiviants for gold and copper leaching. He is a co-inventor of the novel processes using alkaline glycine for the extraction and processing of base and precious metals. He has been a chief investigator in more than 20 research projects in gold and base metals industry, published 32 journal papers, 4 patents families, 15 conference papers and supervised 6 PhD students.
Dr Oraby’s research focus is on the optimisation of cyanide alternative lixiviants for gold leaching such glycine, thiosulfate, thiourea and halides. His current research focus is on the recovery of gold and copper from different gold-copper resources. He also focuses on the base metals recovery from ores, concentrates and waste materials. His research team focuses on novel techniques to recover precious, base and PGMs metals from different resources. The team also focuses on the atmospheric alkaline oxidisation of refractory gold ores and concentrates.
