Ankit Kumar Tripathi is a PhD student in Chemical Engineering at UNSW Sydney, researching sustainable pathways for recovering critical minerals from aqueous resources. His work centres on carbon-based materials and the design of scalable electrochemical systems capable of efficiently extracting valuable minerals from geothermal brines — with future applications extending to more complex secondary resources such as mine tailings.
Ankit’s research is driven by the goal to move beyond conventional extraction methods and develop cleaner, more efficient alternatives that can meet the rising global demand for critical minerals — resources that are essential to the clean energy transition. By prioritising low-carbon, environmentally responsible processes, his work supports the broader shift toward a more sustainable resource economy.
