Program 1 Co-Leader Laureate Professor Yun Liu was elected as ATSE Fellow

Congratulations to Centre Program 1 Co-Leader, Laureate Professor Yun Liu who has been elected as Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering for her outstanding contribution to Science and Engineering.

Professor Yun Liu is an internationally recognised materials chemist and ARC Georgina Sweet Laureate Fellow.

Prof Liu’s outstanding record comprises ground-breaking research, multiple innovation awards, industry collaborations, strong leadership for women in STEM, and dozens of patents. Her discovery of new dielectric materials has profoundly impacted the electronic industry. She is currently researching advanced functional materials for applications in national priority fields.

Prof Liu’s innovative work also contributes to better environmental outcomes. She has explored removing “forever chemicals” from water using patented photocatalysts. Through liquid organic hydrogen carriers, Yun has developed a promising solution to continually store hydrogen at ambient temperature and pressure, at industrial scale – a critical step in Australia’s shift to net zero.

Prof Liu is the co-leader for Research Program 1 and a member of the Centre’s Executive Committee to support the Centre’s management and strategic vision and implementation.  Prof Liu will contribute her expertise in defect chemistry of carbon materials, design and synthesis of carbon catalysts, materials characterisation and application to all three themes. She is a highly accomplished research scientist with a proven track record in technology transformation, novel research and project management and leadership.
