Hirushi Peduruarachchi

Hirushi Peduruarachchi is a PhD candidate from the University of Western Australia (UWA), working along with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Perth. Her primary supervisor is Prof Hui Tong Chua, and she works with 3 other supervisors from UWA and CSIRO. Hirushi’s major field of study is algal biotechnology, with research focused on enhancing algal bio-productivity to improve the conversion of atmospheric CO₂ into clean energy and high-value commercial products. She graduated from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka with a specialisation in Environmental Science, and was awarded the Gold Medal for the best academic performance of the year. Hirushi has been involved in research related to algal biotechnology since her undergraduate studies, and her current work integrates microbiology, biochemistry, and environmental engineering to advance sustainable carbon technologies.
