Chief Investigator Professor Thomas Maschmeyer awarded Order of Australia

ARC Centre of Excellence for Carbon Science and Innovation (ARC COE-CSI) Chief Investigator Professor Thomas Maschmeyer was awarded the Order of Australia (AO) as part of the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours List on Sunday.

Announced by the Australian Academy of Science, Professor Maschmeyer received his AO “for distinguished service to science as a researcher, innovator and educator, and business through pioneering commercial technologies.”

Based at the University of Sydney, Professor Maschmeyer has invented a new, efficient way to overcome the challenge of plastic waste recycling by converting plastic waste inputs into oil for reuse.

He has also developed a completely new solar-energy battery through zinc-bromide chemistry, making renewable energy storage safer and cheaper.

Professor Maschmeyer continues to develop these technologies which are used globally through his two companies Licella and Gelion.
